ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was obstructing development as well as electoral reforms by staying away from the deliberations of the electoral reforms committee.
In a statement, Aurangzeb said that the PTI should participate in the deliberations of the electoral reforms committee. “The tactics being used by the PTI to pressure state institutions and hurl abuse at them will never succeed,” she said. She said that the National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq had played a key role in bringing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) back to the electoral reforms committee. “He also facilitated the return of PTI legislators to the Parliament.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) can rightly boast of electoral reforms, which are being implemented in the country for the first time, besides strengthening constitutional institutions,” she said. The minister said that Imran Khan was running away from presenting records of funds donated to his party from overseas to the ECP.
“Instead, he is trying to ridicule and pressure the ECP as he wants a verdict of his own choice. It has almost become a habit with him to use derogatory language whenever he is questioned about his misdeeds and party funds,” she said. Marriyum stated that the rest of the PTI also emulated their leader. “They use invectives against institutions and political opponents, but the nation will not allow them to get away with their machinations. The nation will itself protect the national institutions,” she said. “Imran Khan has not even taken a single step in the interest of the country and the people,” she said.
