HAFIZABAD: Police authorities on Tuesday arrested a gang for allegedly extracting spinal fluid from bodies of unwitting ‘patients.’
Police arrested a gang for allegedly extracting spinal fluids by tricking at least 15 victims into believing that they were conducting health related drills for a government welfare project.
Investigation officer Abdul Majeed said that the accused confessed to extracting spinal fluids and selling it to a cleaner at a local government hospital.
“They confessed to extracting the spinal cord fluid from at least 10 women in the area and selling it to a cleaner at a local government hospital, who has also been detained,” He said.
Talking to the media, DHQ Hospital medical superintendent said that the authorities fear more women were victimised by the accused gang.
He added that at least 16 more women have been shifted to the hospital for the purpose of medical examinations. Moreover, needle marks have also been found near the spinal area of the women, he revealed.
Earlier, District Police Officer (DPO) Sardar Ghias Gull told the media that authorities have arrested five accused, including a woman, in spinal fluid scandal.
DPO Gull added that the gang targeted woman from underprivileged backgrounds and that the accused tricked the victims by promising financial compensations.
