ISLAMABAD: Cyril Almeida’s name has been removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) on Friday.
The government-issued notification from the Ministry of Interior confirmed it. As earlier today, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan assured the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) that Almeida’s name would be removed from the ECL.
However, he said that the name’s removal would not affect the on-going inquiry into the matter as it would continue till its logical end. According to Nisar, the ‘independent’ media should play its due role in safeguarding national interests and also to counter the enemies of the state’s negative propaganda.
