LAHORE: Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Saturday demanded of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down, saying that how junior officer can independently investigate a sitting prime minister on corruption charges.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader said that if the prime minister did not resign to pave the way of fair and transparent investigation, fingers would be raised at the Joint Investigation Team (JIT). He added that it was the prime minister’s own decision not to resign but the people wanted him to do otherwise. Parvez said that the prime minister should have resigned on moral grounds as after Panama verdict he had lost moral grounds to continue any further as prime minister.
He added that PPP had always resolved the problem of masses. Enumerating the measures PPP government taken for welfare of people, Ashraf said that last PPP government hoisted Pakistan flag in Malakand Division after flushing out Taliban in a successful military operation, provided jobs to the people and raised salaries and pensions of the government employees. He said that 2018 would be PPP’s year.
Coming down hard on the federal government for its failure to resolve power crisis, the former prime minister said that the rulers were resorting to Rental Power Plants ’(RPPs)’ option by changing its name to Short Term IPPs.
